Day 5 Taradale to Napier

First stop out of Taradale was Otatara Pa.

An impressive sight and good views from the top – for us mainly of approaching rain.

There is much more information here.
Here is Noreen ascending Puketapu Road, our last hill of the journey.
A local speciality is making carvings out of old tree trunks. This was the tallest we saw.
We proceeded to Mission Estate for lunch. Very pleasant although we felt slightly casually dressed for the elegant surroundings. We were also steaming slightly!

After lunch the rain came in more steadily so I have no pictures. The last 10 Kms were flat and mainly on a dedicated cycle way which was deserted. We did get slightly lost navigating the main roads near Napier and Noreen got a puncture. However we made it safely back and after a hot shower felt really good. I completed 245 Km at an average speed of 17.4 Km/hr.
