This was the first day travelling amongst the vineyards of
Gimbletts Gravels.
It was a bit damp to begin with but we managed to find shelter in one of the conveniently situated establishments before each rainy interlude.
First up –
Ngatarawa.

utilising premises built as stables by a
Maori/Irish couple.

Many of the vineyards, like
Trinity Hill, cater for cyclists by providing racks where the cycles can rest while their riders sample the wares on offer inside.

We had met the winemaker at
Unison, and sampled his wares, when he attended a Moroccan food evening in Wellington last year. So it was interesting to see where the wine came from.

Their cellar is underneath the house and contains the tasting area and storage for all the ageing wine.

These grapes look ready for picking.

On the way to our night’s accommodation in
Taradale we saw these (non-frisky) pigs.
