Evans Bay is
the part of Wellington harbour just north of the airport. In pre-European times
it wasn’t a bay but led directly to the sea. This panorama shows the main body
of the harbour to the left, the Miramar peninsula in the middle and the head of
the bay and airport on the right.
In a southerly planes fly straight down to land. Here are a
trio of Q300s. JetStar have recently commenced
regional services using these planes (maybe they should be called PropStar).
This is the old Air New Zealand livery
which is being replaced
by this across the fleet.
Balaena
Bay is a popular spot for families and has good sheltered swimming.
It was a gloriously warm day and the sea birds weren’t in
the mood for heavy exertion.
Evans Bay Parade has some of the most expensive real estate
in the city. Some houses are perched precariously on the side of the hill and
often need cable cars to reach them. I think this one is the most impressive
along this stretch.

That is a freaky-looking cable car. Imagine being stuck on that in a howling Southerly!! :/
