Panoramic Wellington

We had a wild start to the week. A strong northerly developed on Monday causing disruption and damage. The house next door to us lost a good portion of its roof – sheets of corrugated iron were blowing round in the gale and some came down on our side of the fence. But the weather quickly improved as it often does and by the weekend it was back to beautiful spring conditions. We took the opportunity for a walk around the fenceline. The wind turbine, which was the first in New Zealand, is now over 20 years old and there are plans to replace it with a modern one which will be much bigger.
From the lookout you get a 360 degree panoramic view of the city and surrounding countryside and coastline. This is north to south panorama – the harbour, over the city and round to Cook Strait and the Pacific Ocean.
The information area has handy seating for a refreshment stop!
This close up shows the inner city and the the apartment block being built to replace the Overseas Passenger Terminal.
The end of the walk is along the valley of the stream that used to be the outlet of the Karori Reservoir.
This weir feeds what used to be used as a swimming pool.
