Whariwharangi to WellingtonDay 6 of our Abel Tasman adventure. Saturday January 19
th.
Whariwharangi to Wainui 5.5 Km 1.5 hours
The hut at Whariwharangi is a restored farm house.

Leaving the hut the track follows a small stream then climbs out of the bay

to a saddle overlooking Wainui Inlet.

The track winds down to the shore around gorse covered ridges recovering from a 1978 fire.
The final part of the walk follows the estuary edge to the car park where we were to meet our shuttle bus for the journey back to Nelson and Wellington
We did just have time to backtrack around Wainui Bay towards Taupo Point.

Although we didn't get to the actual point we rounded the first bluff and were rewarded with a magnificent beach and rock formation.

Noreen (accidentally) took this photo illustrating the old adage "take only photographs, leave only footprints"!

Father and son elated at finishing the walk.

Lastly a family of seagulls. I think these are
karoro.

So that’s it for another year. The Abel Tasman was a great experience and I recommend it to everyone. There are day walks that can be undertaken from the access points of Marahau, Totaranui or Wainui as well as the longer options which involve camping or staying in huts. Thanks to all who accompanied us – your friendship and support made the whole thing much more enjoyable and fun.
